Flowers purple, medium-sized, tubular.

Comfrey has large, woolly basal and stem leaves, but is most distinctive when flowering. A nodding cluster of tubular purple flowers hangs at the end of a coiled stem. Two winglike leaves spread out from above the flower cluster.
